Freedom for Android app options explained

This article provides a detailed explanation of the options in our Android app.

Below you will find a breakdown of all the options you can find in our Android app. For more information on initial setup of the app, please see Installing Freedom on your Android device.

Today Tab

The Today tab contains information about your active and scheduled sessions. It also displays any Important Actions you need to take to ensure your blocks are working properly, as well as a feed of the most recent blog posts from our website.

New Session Tab

On the New Session tab, you can start and schedule your block sessions. For more information, see Android blocklist and session setup.

Blocklists Tab

On the Blocklists tab, you’ll see a list of all your blocklists. You can tap on the three dots to the right of any blocklists you already created to edit or delete them. You can also tap the (+) button to create a new blocklist. For more information, see Android blocklist and session setup.

Sounds Tab

The Sounds tab contains a list of Focus Sounds you can play during your sessions divided into different categories. (Coffee Shops, Offices, etc.) These ambient sounds can help you focus and feel ensconced in your work.

Settings Tab

The Settings tab includes all of the settings options available within the Android app:

Account Details

  • Email address: The email address for your account

  • Account type: (Premium or Trial)

  • Current device: The name of the device

  • Time Zone - Allows you to manage the current Time Zone on your Freedom account. This is the time zone that your blocks will run in.

Advanced Blocking

  • Locked Mode - Locked Mode makes it impossible to log out of the app during an active session. Learn more here: Locked Mode

  • Disable notifications - This option hide notifications from apps blocked by Freedom during your sessions.

  • Do Not Disturb - This option automatically turns on your device's DND mode during sessions. Freedom will prompt you to enable your device's Do Not Disturb permissions when this is toggled on.

Blocking Tools

  • Block Applications and Websites - This permission gives Freedom accessibility permissions to block apps and websites during your sessions.

  • Device Admin - This option allows Freedom to run properly in the background. It also prevents the user from uninstalling Freedom via the home screen.

  • Do Not Disturb Mode - This permission is needed if you want Freedom to activate your device's DND Mode during sessions. You will also need to activate 'Do Not Disturb' in the previous section.

  • Block notifications - This permission is needed if you want Freedom to block notifications during sessions. You will also need to activate 'Disable Notifications' in the previous section.

Notification Settings

Here you can adjust Freedom notification settings.

  • Session Start/Session End: Freedom will notify you when your sessions start/end.

  • App or website blocked: Freedom will notify you when an app or website is blocked.

Preferences

  • Language - Tap to change the language used by the Freedom app

  • Preferred clock format: Toggle between 12-hour or 24-hour time

  • Show blog posts on Today tab -Toggling this setting will hide or show post from the Freedom blog on the Today tab.

  • Color Theme - Tap to choose theme or set to system default

Share Freedom

  • Leave a Review - Tap to leave a review in the Play Store

  • Freedom Support - Contact Freedom support via email

  • Give Feedback - Send a Feature Request, Review, or Issue Report to Freedom support

  • Recent Releases - View recently released features

  • Request and Vote for Features - See commonly requested features and vote on ones you'd like to see

  • About Freedom - Shows information about the Freedom app and the version number

  • System Details - Shows your current Freedom app settings. You may be asked to send a screenshot of this if you contact Support
