In this article, we explain the ways to end or escape your Freedom block session, depending on your device type and whether you are using Locked Mode.
ℹ️ Customer support for block session management has changed. Read more here.
Ending a session in locked mode
Freedom includes a limited option for ending an active session if you are in locked mode.
End Locked Session via Freedom Dashboard
You may occasionally need to end a session when you are using locked mode. To accomplish this, we have a feature that allows you to end your block session on a limited basis.
To take advantage of this feature, follow these steps.
Log in to your Freedom dashboard - https://freedom.to/dashboard
Find the block session you wish to end in your list of running sessions and click on it.
Next, click on Edit Session/Edit Schedule and the session editor will open up.
At the bottom of the form, you will see an End Session link. Click that, and you will be asked to confirm that you want to end the session.
You will have the ability to end the session you selected, or all running sessions for your account.
After your session is ended, please select Sync Freedom in the Mac/Windows menu, or re-open the app on Android/iOS to ensure the blocks are removed.
ℹ️ The ability to end a session while using Locked Mode will replenish 7 days after usage.
End Locked Session via iOS App
Open the Freedom iOS app
Navigate to the Today screen tab
Tap on the session you want to end to view its details
Tap on the "End Session" button
Tap on the additional confirmation to end the session, or optionally end all sessions if applicable.
ℹ️ The ability to end a session while using Locked Mode will replenish 7 days after usage.
Freedom's customer support policy for session management
ℹ️ Freedom Customer Support is not authorized to end block sessions.
We believe our customers should have full control over starting and ending their block sessions. For this reason our support team is not authorized to edit or end your block sessions on demand.
This policy is in line with our mission: once you’ve chosen to focus, we’re here to support your commitment. Locked Mode is designed to help you stay on track by preventing early session endings, and this includes not intervening from our side.
What Does This Mean for You?
If you're using Freedom's Locked Mode, you'll need to wait until your sessions naturally end.
In case of emergencies, your account includes one session deletion allowance, which renews 7 days after last usage.
An undo option is available for all sessions, which allows you to delete a session within the first minute if you make a mistake.
If you need the ability to end sessions on a more flexible basis, we encourage you to disable Locked Mode, which will allow you to end sessions as needed.
Disabling the option to end a session
If you wish to disable the option to end a session, you may do so in Freedom Settings.
To disable this feature using the Freedom Dashboard or mobile apps, navigate to the Settings tab and click the option "Disable ability to end locked mode sessions"
❗️Please note that disabling the option to end sessions is a permanent change and cannot be undone.
Ending a session when not in locked mode
There are a few ways you can end a block session when necessary if you don't have Locked Mode enabled.
End Session via Freedom Dashboard
Log in to your Freedom dashboard - https://freedom.to/dashboard
Click on the name of the session you would like to disable.
Select Edit Session/Edit Schedule and the session editor will open up.
Select End Session
You will have the ability to end the session you selected, or all running sessions for your account.
After your session is ended, select Sync Freedom in the Mac/Windows menu, or re-open the app on Android/iOS to ensure the blocks are removed.
End Session via mobile app (iOS and Android)
You can also end sessions in the Freedom app on your iOS or Android device when locked mode is not enabled.
Open the Freedom app
From the Today Screen, tap the session you want to end.
Tap 'End Session' in the upper right corner
Note: Another way to escape a block session when locked mode is disabled is to log out of the mobile app. To log out, tap on the settings tab, then select “log out.” Please note that it might take a minute for your apps to regain connectivity.
Quitting or logging out of the app (Mac and Windows)
If you would like to be able to end a session by quitting the app on Mac or Windows, you'll first want to make sure Options > Locked Mode is not selected on the Freedom menu.
As long as that is deselected, you can exit sessions by quitting or logging out of the Freedom desktop app. For more information on desktop menu options, please see Windows Desktop Menu Options Explained or Mac Desktop Menu Options Explained.
Note: If you decide to quit in the middle of a session, the next time you reopen the app, the session will continue if it's still during the scheduled times.
