In order for Freedom to start/end blocks on time, it must always be on in the background. Below are some tips for keeping the app active.

Enable Notifications

The number one thing you can do to fix this is to enable notifications in your Freedom app settings. We recommend this setup:

Notifications cause iOS to prioritize keeping Freedom active. This will only show you a notification when sessions start/end, and the first time something is blocked. It won't send you marketing notifications, etc.

Ensure you are logged into Freedom

You must be logged into the Freedom app on your device with the email address and password that you used to sign up for the app in order for sessions to start on time. If you need to reset your password you can do that here.

Background App Refresh

"Background App Refresh" must be enabled in order for Freedom to stay active in the background. To do this:

  1. Navigate to your iOS Settings β†’ General β†’ Background App Refresh

  2. Ensure that the switch at the top is on

  3. Ensure that the individual switch for Freedom is on

Avoid low power mode

When iOS "Low Power Mode" is on, Background App Refresh is turned off and Freedom cannot receive session updates. When it's on, you'll see a yellow battery indicator in the upper right. To turn it off:

  1. Navigate to Settings β†’ Battery

  2. Ensure that Low Power Mode is off

Avoid force quitting

If you have force quit (swiped up) on the Freedom app, it may not be able to start/end your sessions correctly. If you have force quit and you are noticing session syncing issues, you should be able to fix this by reopening the app.
