Ending a session in Freedom depends on whether Locked Mode is enabled. This guide explains how to end sessions when Locked Mode is enabled vs. disabled, across all device types.

Ending a session in locked mode

Freedom includes a limited feature for ending an active session if you are in locked mode. This feature can only be used once every 7 days.

Option 1: End Locked Session via Freedom Dashboard

To end a session using the dashboard:

  1. Go to the Freedom Dashboard and log in.

  2. Find your running session in the list.

  3. Click on the session name.

  4. Select Edit Session or Edit Schedule.

  5. At the bottom of the session editor, click End Session.

  6. Confirm your choice to end that individual session or all running sessions.

After ending the session:

  • On desktop: Select Sync Freedom from the Mac/Windows menu.

  • On mobile: Reopen the Freedom app on iOS or Android.

ℹ️ The ability to end a session while using Locked Mode will replenish 7 days after usage.

Option 2: End Locked Session via iOS/Android App

To end a session using the mobile app:

  1. Open the Freedom app on your iOS or Android device.

  2. Go to the Today tab.

  3. Tap the session you want to end.

  4. Tap End Session

  5. Confirm your choice to end that individual session or all running sessions.

ℹ️ The ability to end a session while using Locked Mode will replenish 7 days after usage.

Freedom's customer support policy for session management

ℹ️ Freedom Customer Support is not authorized to end block sessions.

Freedom Support cannot end sessions on your behalf. This is part of our commitment to helping users stay focused.

Why We Don’t Intervene

  • User autonomy: You control your sessions.

  • Focus-first design: Locked Mode is meant to prevent premature session endings, even by support agents.

We believe our customers should have full control over starting and ending their block sessions.

This policy is in line with our mission: once you’ve chosen to focus, we’re here to support your commitment. Locked Mode is designed to help you stay on track by preventing early session endings, and this includes not intervening from our side.

What Are Your Options in Locked Mode?

  • Wait for the session to end on its own.

  • Use your one-time emergency override, which resets every 7 days.

  • Use the Undo option (available for 1 minute after starting a session).

  • If you need more flexible session management, we recommend disabling Locked Mode

Disabling the option to end a session

You can make the choice to permanently disable the ability to end sessions in Locked Mode:

  1. Open the Freedom Dashboard or mobile app.

  2. Go to the Settings tab.

  3. Enable the setting: “Disable ability to end Locked Mode sessions.”

❗️Please note: this change is permanent and cannot be undone.

Ending a session when not in locked mode

If Locked Mode is not enabled, you have more flexibility in ending sessions.
