Some Android devices include battery optimization or power management features that can stop apps from running in the background. When this happens, Freedom may lose required permissions (such as Accessibility permissions) or stop blocking apps and websites correctly.

If Freedom is not blocking consistently on your device, the first step is to disable battery optimization for the Freedom app.

Below are instructions for the most common Android manufacturers.

General Android Instructions (All Devices)

These steps work on most Android devices:

Select Unrestricted or Don’t Optimize

1. Open Settings
2. Tap Apps
3. Tap Freedom
4. Tap Battery
5. Select Unrestricted or Don’t Optimize

If you see Battery Optimization, set Freedom to Not Optimized.

Samsung phones use Adaptive Battery and Background Usage Limits, which can stop apps from running.

Disable battery restrictions for Freedom

1. Open Settings
2. Tap Apps
3. Tap Freedom
4. Tap Battery
5. Select Unrestricted

1. Open Settings
2. Tap Battery and Device Care
3. Tap Battery
4. Tap Background Usage Limits
5. Tap Never Sleeping Apps
6. Tap Add Apps
7. Select Freedom

Pixel devices use Android’s standard battery optimization settings.

You may also want to turn off Adaptive Battery:

1. Open Settings
2. Tap Battery
3. Tap Adaptive Preferences
4. Disable Adaptive Battery

OnePlus devices use Battery Optimization and Advanced Optimization settings.

1. Open Settings
2. Tap Battery
3. Tap Battery Optimization
4. Find Freedom
5. Select Don’t Optimize

Xiaomi devices are known for aggressive background app management.

Allow Freedom to run in the background

1. Open Settings
2. Tap Apps
3. Tap Manage Apps
4. Tap Freedom
5. Tap Battery Saver
6. Select No Restrictions

1. Open Settings
2. Tap Apps
3. Tap Permissions
4. Tap Autostart
5. Enable Freedom

Oppo devices use Power Saver and App Battery Management.

4. Tap Battery Usage
5. Select Allow Background Activity

You may also need to disable Power Saving Mode.

Vivo devices use Background App Management.
