Starting Freedom

When Freedom starts:

You can start a session in two ways:

  • Go to https://freedom.to and click Start a Session, or

  • Click the butterfly outline icon in the system tray and select Start a Session from the menu.

If you ever find the Freedom app isn't launched in your taskbar, you can relaunch it from the Start menu.

Accessing the Freedom Dashboard

The Freedom desktop app does not display the full dashboard. To manage schedules, blocklists, and your account:

  • Go to https://freedom.to/dashboard in your browser, or

  • Click Launch Dashboard from the Freedom desktop app menu. This will open your browser to the dashboard.

Running Freedom from the Taskbar

Freedom runs in the notification area (system tray) of your taskbar, located at the bottom right of your screen.

To manage Freedom:

  1. Click the up arrow in the taskbar to view hidden icons (if you aren't seeing it in the general task bar).

  2. Look for the Freedom butterfly icon.

  3. Click the icon to open the Freedom menu

Note: if you don't see the butterfly icon in your taskbar, you may need to enable visibility of Freedom icon. To do this, right-click on your taskbar (the bar at the bottom), and select Taskbar settings -> Taskbar corner overflow -> toggle Freedom ON.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does Freedom work with multiple user accounts on the same computer?

Freedom can be installed on a computer with multiple user accounts. However, block sessions are account-specific.

Key Behavior:

  • Block sessions only affect the user account where Freedom is logged in and running.

  • If Freedom is not launched and logged into on a particular account, block settings do not apply to that account.

Can Freedom enforce different blocking rules for different accounts on the same PC?

Currently, Freedom does not support enforcing unique blocklists or block sessions per account. Blocks apply only to accounts where the app is logged in and running during a block session.

If you want Freedom to run on only one user account and not others:

1. Disable "Run on Startup" in Unwanted Accounts

  • Log into the account where you do not want Freedom to run.

  • Open the Freedom app menu.

  • Deselect the "Run on Startup" option.

2. Log Out of Freedom on Those Accounts

  • From the Freedom app menu, select "Log Out."

3. Quit the App on Those Accounts

  • Select "Quit" from the Freedom app menu.

By following these steps, Freedom’s blocking functionality will be limited to the account where the app is actively running and logged in.
