Issue: I quit the Freedom app on my iOS device and my blocks stopped working!
In order Freedom to work correctly, it must always be on in the background. We encourage you to leave the app open and running in the background at all times.
It's possible to "force quit" an app on iOS. There'a misconception that quitting apps will result in improved battery life or improved use of CPU. This is not true! Here's an article which explains the situation: https://daringfireball.net/2017/07/you_should_not_force_quit_apps
This is why we encourage you to never quit Freedom. For Freedom to work correctly, it must always be on in the background!
Issue: sometimes Freedom can't update in the background and must be manually opened
Make sure you have Background App Refresh enabled for the Freedom app. For instructions, please see iOS Background App Refresh.
Because of limitations imposed on all apps by Apple, the Freedom iOS app is sometimes unable to synchronize with our server when it's running in the background. This happens after going long periods without opening the app (a day or more), or sometimes shorter periods (a few hours) if many other apps have been opened in the meantime.
The solution is to simply open the Freedom app now and again and let it sync. Opening the app will automatically sync all of your blocklists and sessions!
We know this isn't ideal, but because of Apple's limitations there isn't a way that we can work around this at this time.
