How to uninstall Freedom for Windows

This article provides detailed instructions on how to uninstall Freedom from your Windows computer.

How to uninstall Freedom on Windows:

  1. First, quit the Freedom app by clicking on the Freedom menu and selecting “Quit.” *Note, if you are prevented from quitting and need to end a currently running session, please instructions on ending a session here.

  2. Open your computer's 'Control Panel'.

  3. Navigate to 'Uninstall or change a program', this may be simply called something like 'Programs & Features'.

  4. Once on the uninstall page, find 'Freedom' and click 'Uninstall' at the top of the screen.

  5. At this point Windows may prompt you to allow Freedom to make changes to the computer, click on 'yes' or 'allow' and the uninstaller will finish removing the Freedom client.

Bypassing uninstall prevention

The Freedom Windows app has built-in uninstall prevention to prevent circumvention of blocks. If you are getting the error "Freedom cannot be uninstalled while the program is running," make sure you have quit the Freedom app from the butterfly icon on your task bar. As long as the app is not active, you will be able to uninstall using the steps above.
