HOW TO BLOCK MOBILE APPS

Important note: This article refers to Freedom for iOS Version 3.0, which was removed from the App Store after Apple forbid app blocking.  If you had previously downloaded Freedom Version 3.0, you can continue to use it on your devices.  See this link for more information.  Freedom 4.0 is currently limited by Apple to blocking websites in Safari.

Note: Our pre-made filters will block both the website and its corresponding mobile app. For example if select the Gmail filter, it will block both Gmail.com and the Gmail iOS app.

To block a mobile app that is not already listed, you need its URL, similar to when you add a website to your blocklist.

If you need help finding the URL for a mobile app, view our App URL Chart below or contact us at support@freedom.to.

Mac + Windows

1. Go to Freedom.to/ and log in.

2. Either click on one of your blocklists to edit it, or create a new blocklist by selecting Add a blocklist.

3. Enter a mobile app URL in the empty field above the filters and click Add Block. If you need help finding the URL for a mobile app, view the chart below.

4. Repeat step 3 with all other apps that you’d like to block. If you created a new blocklist, make sure you save it.

iOS

1. Launch the Freedom app and log in.

2. Go to the Blocklists tab at the bottom

3. Either click on one of your blocklists to edit it, or create a new blocklist by selecting Add a blocklist

4. Select what you want to block by toggling the pre-made filters or by  selecting add block and adding your own websites and apps in the field empty field and selecting Add.

5. Enter the URL of a website or mobile app URL that you wish to block and select Add. Repeat this step until you have added all websites and mobile apps you wish to block.
If you need help finding the URL for a mobile app, view the chart below.

6. Select Save.

THINGS TO NOTE:

Our mobile service works by blocking the content coming in to apps.  This can take up to 5 minutes to kick in due to caching - so make sure you run sessions lengths of 10 minutes or more.  If your apps are still refreshing new data after 5 minutes, please let us know so we can help you with your blocklist!

URLs FOR COMMONLY BLOCKED APPS

Many apps will require a different URL from their website in order to be blocked. Below is a list of URLs for commonly blocked apps.
