Issue: I'm having issues with Freedom on Firefox. How can I fix this?
If you're having trouble with Freedom not working correctly on Firefox, you can add our browser extension!
How to install the Freedom Firefox Add-On
To install the Freedom Firefox add-on, click on the green "Install Plugin" button on our downloads page. You will see a pop-up telling you that Firefox prevented this site from asking you to install software on your computer. Click allow, and the Firefox plug-in will be installed.
Note: You'll need to using Firefox to correctly download and install the add-on.
Issue: Why do I see a warning message when trying to install the add-on?
Because Freedom is a commercial product, Firefox does not allow us to host our add-on on their main add-on site. Therefore, the add-on must be installed directly from freedom.to.
When installing an add-on from a third-party site like freedom.to, Firefox will show you an extra prompt before allowing installation. It will look something like this:
Firefox is doing a good job of protecting users from untrusted websites. What this prompt is asking you is “Do you trust freedom.to?”. Because the add-on is being distributed directly from freedom.to, you can trust it and click “Allow”.
If you were on another website—say, evilsite.com—and it offered to have you install a Freedom add-on, the prompt would effectively be saying "Do you trust evilsite.com to give you a Freedom add-on?". And the answer in this case would be “Don't Allow”!
