Problem: I want to block most apps, but with exceptions for the ones I need regularly.

Freedom for iOS allows you to block entire categories of apps (Social, Games, etc.) or all apps on your device. This makes it easy to set up your app blocklist without the need to select each app individually. However, in some cases, there may be certain apps you would like to exclude. For example, you may want to block most social apps, but still be able to access your text messages. This is where the iOS "Always Allowed" list comes in.

How to set up the "Always Allowed" list on your iPhone or iPad

To choose which apps you would like to be allowed at all times, go to the Settings app on your iOS device and select Screen Time > Always Allowed.

From there, you will see a list of all apps currently installed on your device. Tap the + next to the apps you would like to add, and then return to the Screen Time settings.

You can now set up your Freedom blocklists to include entire app categories, or all apps, and the apps you have selected above will remain accessible.

If you would like to learn more about how to set up your Freedom app blocklist, please see How to block apps on iOS.
